Choosing boards

Thickness, rating and underlay

Laminate is typically 6–12mm thick. For a solid, real-wood feel, 10mm or 12mm is the sweet spot; 7mm or 8mm works if budget matters and your subfloor is smooth.

The boards in our laminate deals are AC4 rated, which suits busy domestic rooms, and every deal includes underlay, scotia trim and door plates. Laminate needs a flat base, so if your floor isn't level we'll screed or ply-board it first.

Laminate questions

How thick should my laminate be?

Between 6mm and 12mm. Go for 10mm or 12mm if you want a hardwood feel, or 7–8mm if cost is the priority and the floor beneath is smooth.

What do I get with a laminate deal?

Laminate supplied and fully fitted, AC4 rated boards, underlay, scotia and door plates, with a 20 year warranty. Full house covers 80m² for £2,699; half house covers 40m² for £1,399.

Can laminate go in a bathroom?

We'd normally recommend vinyl or LVT for bathrooms, as they handle standing water better. Laminate is ideal for the rest of the downstairs.
